Want to find out for yourself?
Do you ever look for a meaning in life?
Do you have questions about the Christian faith?
Do you wonder how you can make sense of the Bible?
Do you want to meet other people with similar questions in an informal, non-threatening way?
What is Christianity Explored?
Christianity Explored is a course for anyone asking these or similar questions. Developed over a period of 10 years, is for people who’d like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics.
Who can come to Christianity Explored?
Christianity Explored is for anyone who would like to investigate Christianity informally with others.
Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome—from the most sympathetic Sunday schooler to the convinced atheist. We will respect your background, culture and beliefs. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.
What goes on?
We have dinner together upon arrival at 7.45pm. Then there’s a short presentation (talk or DVD) followed by discussion time. You are not asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask anything you like—no question is considered too simple or too challenging.
How long does the course last?
The course runs for 7 weeks (with an optional 3 week extension).
What if I find the course is not for me?
You’re very welcome to just try it out for one evening and see how you get on.
How much does the course cost?
Nothing.
Do I have to bring anything?
No, all course materials are provided.
Am I going to get preached at?
Not at all. Though each evening includes a talk designed to explain an aspect of Christian belief and to stimulate discussion we hope you’ll find it challenging and amusing. The group leaders will facilitate discussion and try to answer questions.
How is Christianity Explored different from other courses?
The course is based on Mark’s Gospel; its emphasis on who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him makes Christianity Explored quite different.
What if I can’t make Wednesday?
If Wednesday evening is not convenient for you, then we can arrange for the course to come to you. Meeting on an individual basis or in a small group, someone from St Peter’s (male or female) would love to share the material with you.
