However large or small the scale of map, you can always see Harold Wood. It is the triangle formed by the M25, A12 and A127 roads. St Peter’s Church has been at the heart of this now commuter community since 1939.
Anglican – informally so, the parish church for all; evangelical – the Bible teaching the gospel of God’s grace in Jesus Christ; local – engaged with and serving in the community; and all-age family friendly – welcome and nurture for every age group.
The Church building itself says a lot – homely and warm in colour and atmosphere, modern projection and music facilities, pulpit and lectern prominent. The brilliant new facilities (opened November 2009) only add to the contemporary sense of welcome and hospitality. The congregation of some 350–400 adults and some 80–100 children feels like family and is consistently said to be friendly. We have a staff team of six (clergy, youth workers, and office staff) with usually two apprentices. There are about 25 Small Groups in homes, and groups and activities abound for all ages from cradle to grave.
With the Bible at the centre and a fellowship that is informal, but purposeful, we have a Mission Statement to Reach the lost, Tend the flock, Teach disciples and Send out workers.
In “Vision 21”, St Peter’s has set itself to be a gospel-focused and mission-shaped church for the 21st Century. A major building project was completed in November 2009 to ensure our premises are fit for purpose, to share and enjoy the gospel for a new generation. It is an active church to discover and a good time to join!
