Men's Lunch
HOW IT ALL BEGAN

During the autumn of 1984, a previous vicar of St Peter’s, the late Miles Thompson, the former Canon of Rochester, started a series of monthly lunches for local retired men.

The aim was to provide fellowship and friendship for retired men over a ‘home cooked’ lunch, and an opportunity to hear and respond to the Christian message through a Christian ‘after lunch’ speaker or entertainment. These lunches continue to be very popular and attract between 40 to 50 men.

During 2006, under the chairmanship of Chris Knowles, Retired Men’s Lunches was re-launched as simply – ‘Men’s Lunch’ to encourage any men, retired or not, who are around during the day to attend.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU JOIN US

We offer a friendly welcoming atmosphere, a wholesome lunch ( a bargain at £3.50), cooked on the premises and good company.
You are invited to attend from 12 noon onwards, when a pre-lunch fruit juice can be enjoyed. Lunch is served at 12:30pm.

After lunch you can enjoy listening to a guest speaker, ask any questions, and then discuss amongst friends over coffee. Occasionally we have a ‘themed’ lunch such as ‘Remembrance’ or ‘Christmas’, and sometimes appropriate entertainment. Proceedings finish at around 2.30pm but there’s no hurry!

We’ve been blessed with a truly diverse range of speakers including – Chaplain to West Ham football club; a consultant surgeon; a local head teacher; directors of charities; a long distance walker; a retired Brigadier; a Bishop – to mention just a few!

Lunches are normally held monthly, on the 2nd Tuesday (occasionally the 3rd Tuesday) between September and April with an outing usually in May.
