Women's Fellowship
Women’s Fellowship has been a key part of St Peter’s service to older women for more than fifty years.

We meet at the Ingrebourne Centre on Thursday afternoons between 2:30 – 4pm. We begin with a hymn, prayer and short prologue and bible passage. We enjoy a varied programme, including talks on a wide range of subjects such as gardening, journalism and travel – this is often in the form of slides or videos from exotic places. (we have seen the Himalayas!) We also have quizzes, art demonstrations, bible studies and missionary news from faraway places.

Each termly session begins with a talk from a member of our clergy and some of our entertainment is provide by ourselves, with songs, stories, poems and sketches etc. Each afternoon ends with tea and biscuits and the chance to talk with friends.

We have two “special” days in the year. The first is our spring lunch, usually the week before our Easter break – a three course meal – followed by some form of entertainment, and concluding with afternoon tea. In May our “Quiet Day” consists of a ploughman’s lunch followed by a service of praise and thanks to God in the church. We invite parties from local churches, who, over the years, have become real friends. A speaker is engaged and the afternoon ends with tea and cakes.

We hold an outreach afternoon in June which includes a Bring and Buy sale with a popular home-made cake stall and also book, plant and grocery stall. Members are encouraged to invite people who don’t usually come, and our resident pianist provides background music.

Two outings are arranged each year. The summer trip usually to the seaside and the late autumn one somewhere suitable for Christmas shopping (e.g. a garden centre). During August several of our members hold informal garden parties, with tea, cakes and conversation. Any funds collected are donated to one or other of the six missions we support. We also support a Rwandan orphan boy under Christian Hope International’s Ray of Hope scheme. Some of our members help to support Steve and Ali Nicolle, “home grown” missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Kenya. Funding for mission comes from voluntary donations from members and from 35pence which each member pays for her tea.

Our main aim is to share our love of Jesus Christ with all who come, especially those who don’t yet know him as their Lord, to learn from the bible and each other, and to enjoy good fun and fellowship.
